Students in South Africa are pushing back against fee increases across the country that would threaten to squeeze poor students out of any chance of receiving a college education. In protest they have gone a step further to demand free education! At last count, 14 universities were shut down.
Unfortunately, what young students are experiencing in South Africa is not much different than the plight of youth in America. We must continue to connect the dots throughout the African diaspora. We are one people with the same fight throughout the world.
If you’re not already upset by what you’ve seen and what you’re reading, take a moment to view this short clip of the Minister of Higher Education in South Africa and his opinion of the movement. We have a name for it in the United States, Uncle Tom.
